“The only requirement for an OA membership is a desire to stop eating compulsively.”
Working the Overeaters Anonymous program of recovery is a highly individual process. We don’t all think alike. While some OA members have traditional religions, many others have come to OA with a history of religious conflict or do not accept the concept of a god.
Starting from a few phone and face to face meetings, there are now many meetings registered with OA, listed as Atheist, Agnostic and Secular.
This Secular Service Board was started in 2022, to provide these meetings with support and a safe, inclusive space for all of us as we travel our of journey of recovery together.

WELCOME ALL
We are atheists, agnostics, and others with numerous spiritual and religious beliefs beyond the conventional mainstream. For many, the theist solutions and sexist language in the Alcoholic Anonymous Big Book, Overeater Anonymous materials and prayers at meetings can create serious barriers to recovery.
At our meetings, people who have decades of success share their experience of recovery from compulsive eating behaviors—independent of religious beliefs.
We never have to “act as if” we believe.
Recovery is about healing.
Your thoughts will be heard, all opinions are accepted and tolerance is here.
Again, you are not alone!
